Halifax: New Homeschool Gym/Sports Class starts Oct. 1

New gym/sports class for homeschoolers, ages 6-10, Mondays 9:30-10:30am at St Andrew’s Rec Centre on Bayers Road in Halifax (plenty of free parking, on various bus routes, close to Halifax Shopping Centre).  It starts Oct 1 and runs for 10 sessions ending Dec 17 (no class Oct 8 or Nov 12 due to Thanksgiving and Remembrance Day) on Mondays. Hopefully a great way to start the week! 🙂

The class is not run by HRM Rec. The teacher’s name is Andrew, a qualified physiotherapist who also works running rec programs for people of various ages and abilities (and as a lovely coincidence, his sister was homeschooled and while he was in high school he ran a sports class for homeschoolers).

The class will give kids a chance to try out various sports and learn new skills in a fun environment – most likely badminton, volleyball, soccer, basketball – as well as playing other various fun active games, playing with the big parachute, etc. We are hoping that Halifax City Soccer Club will run two of the sessions for soccer. The plan is flexible and will depend on what seems to work best with the group of kids that take the class and also the equipment available.

Cost is $60 for the 10 sessions per child. 16 kids is the maximum. If the class fills it will just be $45 per child.  Each parent is needed to volunteer to help out at one session.  When registering please note any dates when you cannot volunteer (or if you cannot volunteer at all).

There is a stage in the gym that could be a good place for siblings not participating to play (and parents to hang out if you stay).

To register and arrange payment please email cmdymond @ gmail.com (just take out the spaces before and after the @ to email) Please register as soon as you can if your child would like to participate as space is limited.
